On the 8th of August 2022, the takeaway below my flat caught fire. The flames quickly spread up through the floorboards and into my bedroom. As a photographer, all of my equipment and thousands of pictures were lost. Since losing these belongings and having to find a new place to live, I have been borrowing equipment to work on a project, archiving leftovers and creating new images inside the burnt-out room. This process has allowed me to understand and overcome the loss that I’ve experienced. Melted images of people who are no longer in my life, and items gifted from people who are no longer with us. I have generated a new appreciation for the damaged belongings and images which survived.
